Icon derives from the Greek word "eikon", which simply means "image". Icons are especially prominent in Orthodox churches. Thus, an icon represents an image form of saints, symbolizing the faith of the church and representing as a gateway to the spiritual world.
The invisible spiritual is embodied by an icon. Alone like saints with halos with glorious look in their eyes, looking from the kingdom of heaven to the earthly, seems attractive and is worthy of veneration enough. Often icons are processed in special wooden panels and to paint them probably counts to high art. When you look at such icons, the golden color dominantly catches your eye. This is not just by chance, but gold is one of the noblest metals and symbolizes the presence of the Creator, and the piercing gold halo represents the light of God.
Nowadays, the term icon takes on a completely different meaning in the Westernized world. It is less about saints, but more about famous singers who are revered. Marilyn Monroe is an acting icon, or in the pop field Michael Jackson can undisputedly grace the throne, so that perhaps many a saintly being turns green with envy. These people have proven themselves worthy of veneration by their exceptional talent to establish themselves, certainly haunt our memories even longer. What holy icons and star icons have in common, however, is that they are no longer among the living and were out of reach for ordinary mortals even during their lifetime.
How did the icon appear in the dream and how is it related to real life?
An icon stands as a symbol of a firm anchorage in faith in God. If it appears as a dream image, it does not illustrate for deification of a saint, but against expectation the IMPORTANCE OF THE FAMILY of the dreamer.
This dream image reflects how much value the afflicted dreamer gives to family peace and cohesion. Old traditions could also be of significant importance. The icon represents the ideal image of a family, which dreamer has stored in himself. It depends on the current family situation in the awake state of the dreamer how to interpret the icon individually tailored to him then.
When kneeling humbly on the ground in front of an icon in a reverent posture, it is important to think back to the feelings associated with it. If one experiences fulfilled happiness at the sight of the icon, this could mean for the awake state of consciousness that the dreamer can consider himself lucky and should be filled with gratitude. In the dream he seems to be aware of this by reverently showing his devotion to this icon, which means that his faith makes him suspect a higher power and force.
If the viewer is unpleasantly touched or depressed by the sight of a sacred image, it hides a disappointment or even guilt. Kneeling, with bowed head in front of the icon could indicate despair or sorrow, by which the dreamer is just shaken or afflicted. He probably feels abandoned by God.
On the psychological level of meaning the dream symbol icon embodies the striving for COMPLETENESS and the clear seeing through of the mortality and transitoriness of all being.
If one dreams of an icon that has the same facial features as oneself, one may be deluding oneself. One imagines oneself more perfect than one is or overestimates oneself to a high degree. One places oneself iconically, with an extremely high self-esteem above others, one wants to be different and stand out from others and therefore appears aloof and arrogant to the environment.
A dream about an icon painting can simply indicate a strong connection to the divine or religious affiliation. It is an indispensable aspect of life for the person concerned.
From the spiritual level, the dream symbol "icon" symbolizes the perfect unity in which everything is connected and the entrance portal to the spiritual world.
