The term guru refers to a figure who, as a role model and spiritual guide, helps people gain knowledge with his foresight. The word comes from Sanskrit and means "he who dispels darkness". In our imagination, the word GURU immediately conjures up an image of a long-haired, white-bearded man with wide white robes, who lives in a cave on the peaks of the Himalayas. Such beings have a great responsibility and are always trying to do everything to help humanity on the path of the light of self-knowledge. Finding and staying with a master requires an often arduous path of introspection and purification, paved by surrender of the ego and clear discernment of true and false. This means directing the focus solely to the luminous truth of our being. Enlightenment is called the result of all effort, the self-knowledge of our true being.
