Music, a colorful ring with clowns, trick riders on horses, roaring lions jumping through hoops of fire, tightrope walkers at dizzying heights, knife throwers, jugglers, magicians and the smell of straw. A brilliant spectacle for children!
The circus holds many memories from childhood days. An adventurous life and the longing for freedom promise an exciting circus life, at least in our imagination in any case. Who has not dreamed as a child to run away with a circus, to travel from place to place and always meet new people.
Excitement, joy and also trembling alternate when a tightrope walker balances high up on a rope or a trick rider gallops through the ring on a speeding horse while doing a handstand.
What motive could possibly bring us a circus as a dream symbol?
If the dreamer finds himself in a circus ring during his sleep, this can be interpreted in very different ways. For an exact dream interpretation it is important what feelings the dreamer had during the dream and what his attitude towards the circus is.
If for him the circus stands in connection with a deceptive illusory world, like the laughing mask of the clown, the dreamer also hides his anger, rage and sadness behind a facade. Perhaps the dreamer also had a risky procedure behind him. If one attends a circus performance in the dream scene, this serves as an indication of a warning to the dreamer to keep his hands off reckless ventures and costly undertakings. This dream symbol of the circus also prophesies deceit and promises that will not be kept, either by the dreamer himself or by others around him. The subject is advised not to lie to himself.
If the dreamer perceives a lot of excitement and adventurousness at the sight of the performance, it symbolizes that the dreamer has a longing for more variety and imaginative colorfulness in real life. If he appears in the role of the rope acrobat in the dream even falls from the rope, this augurs a warning to the dreamer to stay away from great and incalculable risks in real life.
If he assumes the role of the clown in the dream circus, this usually expresses that by certain actions one exposes himself to ridicule in public or someone else makes fun of the dreamer. The dreamer is advised to avoid the manipulation of others, even if they present you with promising schemes. It could bring more harm than good to the dreamer.
If chaos breaks out in the dream image of the circus, this represents loss of control. If one finds a circus ring empty in a dream and has a desolate feeling about it, this signals loneliness of the person concerned. He feels abandoned and alone. If the dreamer in the dream sees a circus announcement on a poster hung up somewhere, this image prophesies joyful and cheerful hours in the near future.
According to the psychoanalytic view, circus dreams refer to the dreamer's ingenuity and creative talents. The whole dream scene is significant with all its details. Artistic and acrobatic performances thus convey the dreamer's ability of astuteness and concentration as well as self-control. He is thus master of his emotions without being taken over by them.
Opposite to this a clown is analyzed, which stands for hiding the feelings or on the other hand for fantasy. A circus is also a symbol of surprises and unexpected resolution of some circumstances, which recently seemed to be an impossibility.
On a spiritual level of interpretation, the circus as a dream symbol illustrates a warning not to be deceived by outward appearances. Furthermore, one should consciously free oneself from arrogance and boasting. One should refrain from boasting about one's own level of spiritual development, since self-knowledge is not about being better than others. If there is a deep realization, it will be perceived and recognized by others even without showing off.
